GLASS 101

Is Your Glass Letting in Light—or Letting Out Comfort?

Glass does more than connect you to the outside world—it affects your energy bills, your safety, and your space’s entire mood. But not all glass is created equal. Are you using the right type where it counts?

Which Type of Glass Best Suits Your Space?

  • Tempered & Laminated Glass: Essential for safety in doors and low windows
  • Insulated Glass Units (IGUs): Double or triple panes for energy savings
  • Low-E & Tinted Glass: Reflects heat, filters light, boosts efficiency
  • Decorative & Textured Glass: Adds privacy, elegance, and natural light flow
  • Automated Glass: Automatic privacy and lighting

Choosing the right glass can elevate both performance and design.

SIGNS YOU NEED A PRO

  • There’s fogging, condensation, or visible moisture between panes
  • You notice cracks, chips, or failing seals
  • You’re experiencing heat loss or persistent drafts
  • You need custom sizes, curves, or oversized installations

SOME CONSIDERATIONS

  • Energy Efficiency: Check U-value and solar heat gain coefficients
  • Safety & Compliance: Tempered or laminated glass may be required
  • Sound Control & UV Protection: Especially in urban or sun-exposed areas
  • Maintenance: Will you be able to access it for regular cleaning and care?

Glass should do more than look good—it should work hard to insulate, protect, and enhance. The right pane makes all the difference.

ASK AN EXPERT

These are just a few of the questions commonly asked by our clients about Glass.
1
What is the difference between tempered and plate glass?

The difference between tempered glass and plate glass lies in their manufacturing process, strength, and safety characteristics. Tempered glass is about 4 times stronger than plate glass and breaks into small blunt pieces, which is safer. Plate glass is prone to shatter into sharp shards. Plate glass is used in areas with low risk of impact, while tempered glass is often required in areas safety is a concern.

2
Can glass be custom-shaped?

Yes, glass can absolutely be custom shaped to fit unique design needs or architectural features. Glass can be cut into neatly any shape or pattern.

3
Is one-way glass available?

Yes. Privacy glass is available and widely used in both residential and commercial applications for privacy and security.
