ROOFING 101

Your First Line of Defense Against the Elements.

Your roof protects everything underneath it—from your walls to your wiring. Whether you’re replacing, repairing, or building new, roofing decisions affect safety, energy efficiency, and property value.

Common Roofing Types:

  • Asphalt Shingles: Affordable, widely used, and easy to install
  • Metal Roofing: Durable, fire-resistant, and great for shedding snow or rain
  • Tile Roofing (Clay or Concrete): Long-lasting and ideal for warm climates
  • Slate Roofing: Extremely durable and elegant, but heavy and expensive
  • Wood Shingles or Shakes: Natural look with decent insulation, but higher maintenance
  • Flat Roof Systems (TPO, EPDM, Built-Up): Common on commercial or modern residential builds

SIGNS YOU NEED A PRO

  • Curling, cracked, or missing shingles
  • Leaks, stains, or moisture in the attic or ceiling
  • Mold, moss, or algae growth
  • Sagging or uneven roofline
  • Damaged flashing or chimney seals
  • Your roof is 20+ years old (or showing signs of aging earlier)

WHAT A PRO CAN DO THAT YOU MIGHT MISS

  • Spot hidden damage in decking, underlayment, or flashing
  • Ensure proper ventilation, which extends roof life and improves energy efficiency
  • Match materials to your local climate, slope, and structural capacity
  • Navigate permits, inspections, and insurance claims
  • Install systems to prevent ice dams, pooling, or wind uplift
  • Offer warranties that DIY installs don’t provide

Your roof carries more than rain—it carries peace of mind.

ASK AN EXPERT

These are just a few of the questions commonly asked by our clients about Roofing.
1
What roofing materials are available?

Whether you’re looking for durability, style, or energy efficiency, there’s a wide range of options for your roofing material.

2
How long will my roof last?

How long your roof lasts greatly depends on the material you choose, the quality of the installation, the climate you live in, and maintenance.

3
How do I know if I need a full replacement versus repairs?

Repairs are ideal when damage is limited to an area and the rest of your roof is in good shape. Widespread damage, visible signs of damage in different spots, and age are factors in determining if you need a full replacement. Making extensive repairs to a roof that may be nearing the end of its lifespan, may not be a wise investment. A roofing expert can help you make a good decision.

4
What warranties are available?

Manufacturer’s warranties and workmanship warranties vary depending on the product you choose and the installation contractor. A roofing expert can help make sure your warranties are in place to give you peace of mind during and after your roofing project.

5
Are permits required?

In most cases you do need a permit for your roofing project. Obtaining permits, when needed, come with inspections. Safety inspections and inspection for the quality of work. Having permits, especially on a full replacement or large repairs, can be required for insurance coverage and property resale. Your roofing expert can certainly tell you if a permit is required, or recommended on your project.
